Subway® Canada celebrates World Sandwich Day with donation drive to provide 2 million meals to Food Banks Canada Français
Restaurant chain partners with Food Banks Canada to #MakeitMatter this World Sandwich Day, November 3rd
TORONTO, Oct. 31, 2018 /CNW/ - Canadians across the country will be able to #MakeitMatter and donate more than 2 million meals to food banks across the country as part of Subway® Canada's World Sandwich Day efforts. Beginning on World Sandwich Day, November 3rd, the restaurant chain will launch a two-week donation drive in partnership with Food Banks Canada to raise awareness and funds, which go directly to those who rely on Canadian food banks.
From November 3rd – 17th, Subway® is inviting Canadians to 'Buy a Meal, Give a Meal' – for every combo purchased, a meal will be donated to Food Banks Canada*. The campaign builds on the success of past World Sandwich Day initiatives and marks the third year Subway® Restaurants has partnered with Food Banks Canada to address food insecurity in Canada.
"Our ongoing partnership with Food Banks Canada helps ensure access to fresh quality food for those experiencing hunger across the country," says Subway® Canada Marketing Director, Cristina Wells. "By participating in Subway's World Sandwich Day celebrations, you will be joining a global Subway® Restaurants support initiative that spans over 60 countries."
To showcase the evolution of food banks and dispel common perceptions surrounding food bank offerings, Subway® Canada and Food Banks Canada have created an interactive experience chronicling the evolution of food banks in Toronto. The interactive food bank will be open November 2-3 with the goal of raising awareness and debunking beliefs that only non-perishable goods are available, while showcasing some of the wholesome fresh offerings that can often be found in food banks today.
"Keeping the shelves stocked with fresh foods can be financially demanding for food banks, especially as Canada enters into the cooler months," says Chris Hatch, Chief Executive Officer for Food Banks Canada. "The financial donations from companies like Subway® Canada, go a long way in allowing our food banks to provide a more wholesome offering of fresh milk and eggs, frozen meat and vegetables and fresh produce."
The interactive experience will be located at 322 Queen Street and will be open for tours from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. on November 2nd and from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. on November 3rd, 2018.
