Support for 10 projects in the Appalaches RCM through the Canadian Initiative for the Economic Diversification of Communities Reliant on Chrysotile Français
Government of Canada invests more than $3.5 million as it continues to support communities and businesses in the Appalaches RCM in their efforts to transition to new economic activities

The Government of Canada is committed to investing in job creation to grow the economy and create wealth for Canadians. It is aware that communities need to diversify strategically by building on innovation to develop lasting regional competitive advantages. As such, support for the local economic development of communities is a priority for the Government of Canada.
The Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Member of Parliament for Compton–Stanstead and Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, announced $3,529,892 in financial support for 10 projects in the Appalaches RCM.
The funding granted through CED's Canadian Initiative for the Economic Diversification of Communities Reliant on Chrysotile will support the projects of SMEs, business support organizations, non-profit organizations and municipalities in connection with the diversification of economic activity to create jobs in the short and long terms.

The project consists in acquiring and installing a reactor with a high-powered planetary shaker. Oleotek will be able to improve its technology transfer capacity in order to enhance the performance and innovation activities of SMEs.
Oleotek is a college centre for technology transfer (CCTT) associated with the Cégep de Thetford. It provides applied research and technology transfer services for SMEs in green, renewable chemistry.

Non-repayable contribution of $200,000 out of a total investment of $536,851
The project consists in putting up a new building in the Parc industriel de Robertsonville to increase the area's capacity to attract new investment projects. The project will help retain businesses currently established in the municipality and attract new ones.
The Comité de développement de Robertsonville Inc. is a non-profit organization that supports local economic development by making industrial spaces available to businesses and proponents.

Repayable contribution of $175,000 out of a total investment of $1,026,000
The project involves the acquisition and installation of a new glass processing technology. The project will demonstrate the effectiveness of a clean technology used to sort and process glass from waste collection, valorizing the sorted glass and giving it to a recycler instead of paying to dispose of it.
Récupération Frontenac Inc. is a non-profit social economy enterprise that operates a sorting centre for recyclable materials from residential and commercial waste collection.

Repayable contribution of $110,000 out of a total investment of $475,000
The project involves the acquisition and fit-up of a new building so the enterprise can expand its facilities, increase its production space and modernize the work environment.
LDetek specializes in the design, manufacture and commercialization of gas analysis systems and equipment through a chromatographic process. The business also provides consulting services for the development of new chromatographic applications.

The project consists in restoring and upgrading the Magasin général O'Brien heritage site in the Black Lake sector, to consolidate and enhance the tourism offering in the Appalaches RCM.
The Société du patrimoine de Thetford Mines is a non-profit organization that helps foster the conservation, restoration and maintenance of the heritage assets of the City of Thetford Mines.

The project involves structuring the development and promotion of the tourism industry in the Appalaches RCM. It consists in producing the 2017–2021 tourism development strategic plan for the Appalaches RCM.

The project involves structuring the development of the Mont Adstock recreational tourism area. It consists in producing a master plan, including a diagnosis, a commercialization plan and a governance proposal for the plan's implementation.
The Office de tourisme de la MRC des Appalaches is an organization dedicated to the development and promotion of tourism in the Thetford area.

The project consists in conducting a market survey to measure the need for community infrastructure and specialized guidance infrastructure, as well as adapted equipment for small agri-food processing businesses in the Appalaches RCM and surrounding RCMs for the potential implementation of an agri-food processing centre.
