MONTREAL, Oct. 31, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced a rather unusual seizure in this day of Halloween. Instead of being filled with candies, three pumpkins carried by a female traveller at Montréal-Trudeau Airport contained nearly two kilograms of suspected cocaine.
Border services officers discovered the pumpkins filled with suspected cocaine while searching the luggage of the traveller. The drug was transported to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police office for further investigation.
"Border services officers work tirelessly to intercept narcotics regardless how they are hidden", said Benoît Chiquette, the CBSA's Regional Director General for the Quebec Region. "This seizure helps eradicate narcotics from our community by stopping potential traffickers from using our international airports for their illicit cross-border activities."
Since the beginning of 2013, border services officers at Montréal-Trudeau Airport have made 173 drug seizures, including 10 cocaine seizures for a total of 44 kilograms.
In 2012, border services officers in the Quebec Region made a total of 1653 drug seizures.
