CALGARY, Aug. 30, 2016 /CNW/ - The National Energy Board (Board) has decided to adjourn the Montreal Panel Session set to take place this week.
This decision has been made as a result of a violent disruption on the first day of the proceedings and ongoing security concerns.
Disruptions like this one compromise the Board's ability to conduct the session in a secure manner and also prevent intervenors from having an opportunity to be heard, sharing their views and asking questions. All participants in this hearing have a right to be heard and treated with respect.
Given that two motions have been filed asking for the recusal of Panel Members, and given that the Board has invited written comments by September 7, 2016 on the these motions, the Board will not proceed with further Panel Sessions until it reaches a decision.
The National Energy Board is an independent federal regulator of several parts of Canada's energy industry with the safety of Canadians and protection of the environment as its top priority. Its purpose is to regulate pipelines, energy development and trade in the Canadian public interest. For more information on the NEB and its mandate, please visit www.neb-one.gc.ca.
