TORONTO, May 31, 2012 /CNW/ - On June 1, 2012, OPSEU College faculty and the Canadian Association of University Teachers are co-hosting a Symposium at Ryerson University. A panel of high-profile speakers will discuss the right of all to quality public education. The Symposium also addresses the timely issue of academic freedom in Canada.

The Symposium features keynote speaker, Marcus Harvey, Executive Director of the Trent University Faculty Association. The panel moderator is Margaret Visser, author and former professor at York University.
Presenters and panelists include Eduardo Almeida, First Vice-President/Treasurer, OPSEU; Penni Stewart, Professor, York University and past President, CAUT; Jonathan Singer, Professor, English and Liberal Studies, Seneca College; Angela Regnier, Communication Officer, CAUT Academic Freedom and Tenure Committee; Cindy Brownlee, Member of the Canadian Federation of Students (CFS - Ontario), and student at George Brown College in Toronto.
Presentation and discussion topics will include how we ensure quality programs for Ontario college students, what academic freedom means in the context of Ontario colleges and the struggle to win and maintain academic integrity.
