Exclusive women's apparel collection launches March 23 at Target stores across Canada
MISSISSAUGA, ON, March 6, 2014 /CNW/ - Tonight, The Sarah Stevenson for Target collection was unveiled at an intimate fashion show in Toronto. As the winner of Toronto Fashion Incubator's New Labels® fashion design competition in 2013, Stevenson was awarded the opportunity to create an exclusive apparel collection to be carried in most Target stores across Canada. The Sarah Stevenson for Target collection, which features dresses, blouses, pants and a statement blazer, launches in stores on March 23, 2014 with every piece available for under $60.
"Target is well-known for partnering with innovative designers to offer our guests the latest in style and design at incredible prices," said Elisha Ballantyne, divisional merchandise manager, Apparel and Accessories, Target Canada and past judge of the TFI New Labels competition. "We are proud to support up-and-coming designers like Sarah Stevenson and are confident Target guests will be thrilled with her fashion-forward collection."
The Sarah Stevenson for Target collection is made up of 15 pieces that range in price from $24.99 - $59.99. Staying true to Stevenson's design aesthetic, it features richly-hued florals and feminine, sophisticated styles. Inspired by nature, specifically flowers she saw throughout Toronto last spring, the collection evokes a timeless, elegant and romantic feel.
As part of its commitment to fostering up-and-coming design talent, Target sponsored the Toronto Fashion Incubator's 2013 New Labels fashion design competition, a prestigious national competition that was created to help support young Canadian designers. Those entering the competition were tasked with creating a fashion line for the Target guest. As a member of the judging panel, Ballantyne also mentored the designers throughout the competition by providing guidance and educating them on critical business elements to consider when creating their collections. After a series of four challenges, Stevenson was crowned the winner at the TFI New Labels® Gala in April 2013.
"I'm so grateful to have had this opportunity with Target and TFI," said Stevenson. "It's been such a great learning experience and I am really proud of my collection and how my vision came to life. I'm excited to see my designs on the streets in addition to the different style interpretations and pairings by everyday women."
After pursuing a master's degree in Fashion and Textile Design by the Institute of European Design in Milan, Stevenson continued to hone her craft by exploring fabrics and prints. Through complex cutting, precision tailoring and exceptional detailing, she founded the luxury ready-to-wear and accessories brand Textile & Clothing Designer Sarah Stevenson in 2010. As one of the few designers to create her own fabric, Stevenson has been recognized as an emerging leader in the textile industry in Canada. Most recently, she was the recipient of the Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards' Emerging Talent Award in February 2014.
