WENDAKE, QC, July 20, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - The Chief of the AFNQL, Ghislain Picard, congratulates National Chief Shawn Atleo, who was entrusted with a renewed term this week by the Chiefs of the Assembly of First Nations assembled in Toronto.
Over five hundred Chiefs from all territories participated in the elections among which a significant majority voted for Shawn Atleo, a hereditary chief hailing from British Columbia.
"As the National Chief, Shawn Atleo is the bearer of the hopes of all our peoples, particularly our youth", underlined Chief Ghislain Picard.
"The expectations and challenges are considerable. The First Nations have always demonstrated a lot of patience and wisdom in their relationships with the other governments, more particularly in terms of resource sharing and land management. It is clear that the time has now come to take action", added Chief Picard.
"National Chief Shawn Atleo can count on the determination of the Chiefs of the AFNQL as well as my support in order to carry through the missions he has been entrusted with by all of the First Nations", concluded the Chief of the AFNQL, Ghislain Picard.
