The Assembly of First Nations of Quebec and Labrador is holding a Summit on Territories and Resources with the presence of the Premier of Quebec and several members of her government Français
WENDAKE, QC, Nov. 30, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - The Summit, which will bring together Chiefs from all First Nations, will take place on December 3, 2012 at the Palais de Congrès de Montréal.
Following the election of the new government in Quebec, the AFNQL invited the Premier to take part in their Summit, with the objective to achieve a political commitment to a genuine and full participation of First Nations in the management, development and preservation of the territories.
The issues to be discussed at the Summit will deal specifically with royalties on the exploitation of natural resources, territorial co-management and conservation, and consultation and accommodation of First Nations.
Premier Pauline Marois committed rapidly to taking part in the AFNQL Summit. "We are pleased by the premier's commitment and the participation of several members of her government. We have always insisted on the fact that the development of Quebec cannot take place by excluding First Nations. On Monday, we will begin the task of working with Quebec to confirm a reciprocal willingness to establish a relationship based on mutual respect," said AFNQL Chief Ghislain Picard.
