17th Mental Illness Foundation Prestige Wine Tasting
MONTREAL, April 6, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - This past April 5, close to 400 guests from the health and business communities gathered at Montréal's Marché Bonsecours in support of the Mental Illness Foundation at its 17th Prestige Wine Tasting. Through their generous support, guests helped raise $ 100,000 for the Foundation's programs.
The event was held under the honorary co-presidency of Mr. Philippe Duval, SAQ President and CEO and Mr. Éric Bédard, Managing Partner for the Quebec Region at Fasken Martineau and was attended by the major partner of the evening, Mr. Pierre Karl Péladeau, Quebecor President and CEO. Martin Champoux, host of TVA's Qu'est-ce qui mijote?, also brilliantly hosted this colourful—and flavorful!—evening. Avocado Traiteur's chef and his team, together with renowned sommelier Patrick Blondin, tantalized the guests' taste buds with a delicious meal that paired perfectly with the tannins of the numerous wines and spirits sampled.
"This is not just a refined gastronomic event important to those who enjoy good food and great wines," stated Dr. Martin Tremblay, Psychiatrist and Chair of the Mental Illness Foundation's Board of Directors. "The presence and cooperation of our generous guests and donors is essential, because it draws attention to this important cause and helps the Foundation pursue the mission it undertook 32 years ago."
The proceeds of this event will help the Foundation, among other things, pursue activities under its Partners for Life youth program. Since 1998, the program has raised the awareness of over 750,000 young people in Quebec and given them tools to battle depression, the number one risk factor for suicide and dropping out of school. "Between 5% and 10% of young people will suffer from depression during adolescence, but won't seek the help they need for fear of being judged or stigmatized," indicated Dr. Tremblay. "That is why a program like Partners for Life is essential to inform young people, reassure them and, most of all, encourage them to speak out if they are suffering."
The Mental Illness Foundation extends its most sincere thanks to the collaborators and partners who contributed to the success of this event and acknowledges the essential contribution of the sponsors.
