The Canadian Pacific Railway and Unifor reach a collective agreement - Minister Leitch congratulates both parties

OTTAWA, March 9, 2015 /CNW/ - Today, the Honourable Dr. K. Kellie Leitch, Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women, congratulated the Canadian Pacific Railway Company and Unifor Local 101 on the renewal of their collective agreement.

Members of the shopcraft bargaining unit ratified a tentative agreement reached between CP and Unifor which had averted a work stoppage on February 15.

The agreement was reached with assistance from the Labour Program's Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS). The FMCS provides dispute resolution and dispute prevention assistance to trade unions and employers under the jurisdiction of the Canada Labour Code.

• The Canadian Pacific Railway Company operates freight trains and owns approximately 22,000 kilometres of track all across Canada and into the United States, stretching from Montréal to Vancouver, and as far north as Edmonton.
• The collective agreement covering approximately 2,200 shopcraft employees expired on December 31, 2014.
