The Disciplinary Council of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec strikes Yves Themens from the roll for a period of 5 months Français
MONTREAL, March 27, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - The Disciplinary Council of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec rendered its decision on sanction in the case of Yves Themens, who will be struck from the roll for a period of 5 months. In its decision, the Disciplinary Council also ordered Mr. Themens to pay all costs in connection with the proceedings, including publication costs.
For accepting undue advantages from contractors that were doing business with his employer between 2000 and 2009, while he was Chief Engineer of Public Works at the City of Montreal, Mr. Themens was found guilty of violating a section of the Code of Ethics of Engineers pertaining to situations of conflicts of interests.
Furthermore, Mr. Themens, who was convicted by the Court of Québec for making a false statement during his testimony before the Commission of Inquiry on the Awarding and Management of Public Contracts in the Construction Industry in November 2012, was found guilty of committing a criminal offence related to the practice of his profession, i.e. engineering, in accordance with section 149.1 of the Professional Code.
The sanction imposed by the Disciplinary Council took effect on March 15, 2017. As a reminder, the sanctions imposed by the Disciplinary Council are meant to protect the public by dissuading professionals from repeating offences and by setting an example for other members of the profession.
