The Government of Canada announces the transfer of the entire management of the Maison Jean-Paul Raymond to the Union des producteurs agricoles du Québec Français
MIRABEL, QC, March 27, 2019 /CNW/ - The Government of Canada is proud to contribute to the cultural, social and ancestral vitality as well as to the development of an agricultural community located in one of Quebec's most fertile lands.
Today, the Honorable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Tourism, Official Languages and La Francophonie, announced on behalf of Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, the transfer of the entire management of the Maison Jean-Paul Raymond, located in Ste-Scholastique-Mirabel, to the Union des producteurs agricoles du Québec.
When the land was expropriated in 1969, the Crown acquired an ancestral property built in 1900, now known as the Maison Jean-Paul-Raymond. On June 1, 1989, the government approved the sale of that property to the Union des producteurs agricoles in Ste-Scholastique-Mirabel on condition that clauses be included to limit its resale and its use. Today, the government announced that it will be waiving all limiting conditions to give the Union des producteurs agricoles all the flexibility needed to ensure the sustainability of the Maison Jean‑Paul‑Raymond.
Minister Joly also stated on behalf of Minister Garneau, that he is pondering the future of 748 acres of surplus lands at the former Mirabel airport. The identified lands were originally part of the sales program for the 11,000 acres of Mirabel land, which ended in 2013 after two extensions. The Government of Canada is currently holding consultations on this matter and working with interested stakeholders. Additional information will be provided when these consultations are completed.
