More than 2,700 hotels across 94 countries have been classed as outstanding and awarded the top Hotels.com Loved by Guests gold award, after achieving an average guest review rating of 4.7 or higher* (out of 5). The Hotels.com Loved by Guests awards are based on authentic, trusted reviews left by customers who have actually stayed in the properties, meaning the hotel guests are the real judges.
Vancouver was the Canadian city with the most gold awards with 10, but Toronto and Montreal were not far behind with nine each. Notable winners include the Rosewood Hotel Georgia and Fairmont Pacific Rim in Vancouver, the Ritz-Carlton and Trump International Hotel & Tower in Toronto as well as Hotel le St. James and Hotel Nelligan in Montreal. The Shangri-La Hotel also scored well in both Toronto and Vancouver.
For the second year running, hotels in the US were the biggest gold award winners, with 1,087 properties being recognized. Other top destinations included the UK (220), Italy (187) and Canada (86).
Award Winning Sleeps in the City
For the city table-toppers, it was the Italians who led the way, with three of the top five cities for gold award-winning hotels from around the globe coming from Italy. Rome topped the list with 38 winners, with Florence taking third spot with 27 and Venice fourth with 26. London scooped 30 gold winners securing second place in the overall city list, with Prague completing the top five with 23 hotels.
Both London and Prague featured hotels that scored the exceptional 5 out of 5 – the Arcadia Residence in Prague and the 41 Hotel in London. 24 other hotels from around the world also achieved the top marks of 5 out of 5, but none of them were in Canada, although four did score 4.9.

In North America, the city that supposedly never sleeps actually has some of the best sleeps in the US, as 15 New York hotels bagged themselves a gold award, followed by Houston and Chicago both with 11 in joint second, then Vancouver third with 10 hotels, Montreal and Toronto joint fourth with 9 hotels each and Miami in fifth with 8 hotels.
In Asia, it was the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi that came out top, with 19 gold winners and in Latin America, the Argentinian capital of Buenos Aires scooped the most with eight hotel winners.
Best in Class
A further 500 hotels have also been crowned winners in the Hotels.com Loved by Guests awards, in the 'Best for' categories. These awards celebrate the very best hotels around the world, again based on trusted guest reviews, across 10 bespoke categories** - Luxury, Business, Boutique, LGBT, Beach, Ski, Family, Spa, New and All Inclusive. The top 50 hotels in each category have been recognized and will receive awards and certificates. The Hanoi Lotus Boutique Hotel in Vietnam was the highest rated amongst all 500 'Best for' winners, scoring an incredible 4.9 out of 5 and winning a 'Best for New' hotel award.
Western Canada may have bigger mountains, but hotels in ski regions in Quebec snagged most of the top awards for best Ski hotels, most notably in Mont-Tremblant which was represented by three hotels, led by the Fairmont Tremblant.
For Spa hotels, Victoria, B.C. is the place to be. The Parkside Hotel & Spa and Delta Victoria Ocean Pointe Hotel Resort & Spa were recognized as the best in Canada by guests who stayed there.
Considering the vast length of its ocean coasts, it's perhaps surprising to see the only Beach hotel in the country to be named to the list isn't even on the sea. It's on Lake Osoyoos in B.C. where you will find the the beautiful Watermark Beach Resort.
Several Boutique hotels were recognized across the country for their quality, but only Quebec City had more than one, the Auberge Place d'Armes and Le Saint-Pierre. The top business hotel was the Courtyard by Marriott at the Saskatoon Airport and the hotel recognized as the best by LGBT travellers was the Park Hyatt Toronto.
"What makes our awards program so special is that, as the new name suggests, these hotels are loved by guests, they are awards chosen by the people for the people. When we launched the program last year we wanted to not only recognize our top-performing hotel partners, but we also wanted to help consumers make informed booking decisions, based on genuine, trusted reviews," said Elena Novokreshchenova, Director of Global Content for Hotels.com Brand.
"This year we've evolved the awards by introducing a new gold level that really celebrates those truly outstanding hotels, who have achieved average guest ratings of 4.7 or higher. Thanks to the now 20 million authentic and verified reviews on our site, we've been able to recognise 2,700 gold winners and found the best hotels across 10 bespoke categories. As the influence of feedback from hotel guests still continues to grow in importance, we're proud that this content and guest feedback on our site is informing and providing valuable insight for both our customers and hotel partners alike."
Each selected hotel will receive a framed certificate and window sticker to display on-site at their location. Hoteliers will also be able to showcase their guest review rating on their social and digital platforms by downloading a special widget.
Hotels.com is encouraging travellers to share their most memorable hotel accommodations on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using the #LovedbyGuests hashtag. Learn more about the top guest rated hotels here
