The Jewish Community of Quebec calls on the police to act swiftly and bring to justice perpetrators of hate crimes Français
MONTREAL, July 24, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Over the past few days, the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs - Quebec (CIJA-QC) the advocacy arm of Federation CJA (FCJA) has become aware of several incidents of harassment, intimidation and violence targeting visibly identifiable Jews in the streets of Montreal.
We are in regular contact with the Montreal Police (SPVM) who are determined to thoroughly investigate all forms of harassment, intimidation and violent incidents of antisemitism and ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable for their crimes and are put to justice. We are therefore urging any victims of hate crimes to report them immediately to the SPVM and to follow up with CIJA-QC at ([email protected]).
The outbreaks of every armed conflict in the Middle East inevitably lead to intolerable violent repercussions on Jewish communities around the world. The ongoing conflict is unfortunately not an exception. The importation of hatred and violence in the streets of Montreal targets not only the personal safety of Jews, but also the democratic order in Quebec.
We welcome the determination of SPVM to ensure the safety of all Quebecers and urge it to proceed quickly with the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the hate crimes.
