TORONTO, Feb. 11, 2016 /CNW/ - The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC) is pleased to announce the election of three new members to the LLSC Board of Directors. Rick Lancaster (Toronto), retired financial services industry senior executive and former President and CEO of CIBC Life Insurance, Marie Lapointe, (Lachine), retired from Rio Tinto as finished products Executive Director, and Paul Petrelli, (Toronto) , President of Biogen Canada.
"I am very pleased to welcome Rick, Marie and Paul as new Board members," said Gilles Legault, Chairman of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada. "Each of them brings a wealth of experience and expertise in their respective field, from biotechnology to strategic planning, as well as, governance and board experience. They represent a tremendous addition to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada in our mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients."
LLSC's Board of Directors is comprised of seasoned leaders from the medical, business, academic and volunteer communities in Canada. It is the Board's responsibility to provide governance, counsel and guidance in the strategic direction of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada, as well as, to raise awareness of its research and patient program impact.
Marie Lapointe
Marie is a senior executive in the aluminum industry with strategic planning and business improvement experience and a background in engineering. She retired from Rio Tinto as finished products Executive Director, and has held director roles at Steel Mill and Alcan. She was Business Woman of Year for the Richelieu Sorel-Tracy region in 2014 and the work chair of United Way. She has been a member of several associations including the Foundation of CEGEP College in Sorel-Tracy. Marie has a Bachelors in Engineering from the University of Chicoutimi. Marie's mother has Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL).
Paul Petrelli
Paul is a senior executive in the Biotechnology/Pharmaceutical industry with business leadership and marketing experience. He is currently the President of Biogen Canada and has held senior positions in the pharmaceutical industry. He is on the board of directors of several biotechnical organizations and is also on the volunteer board of the Oakville Hornets Hockey Association. Paul has a B.Sc. in Genetics and Immunology from the University of Toronto.
Rick Lancaster
Rick is a retired financial services industry senior executive and former President and CEO of CIBC Life Insurance. Rick served on a not-for-profit board supporting Scouts Canada for 7 years. He was also former chair and director of the Canadian Association of Financial Institutions in Insurance. Rick has his CPA-CGA designation, an MBA from the University of Toronto and an HBA from the Ivey School of Business, Western University. Rick is a 6 year survivor of NHL.
