The Montreal 2017 ISPA Congress announces the creation of three new fellowships for emerging to mi-career Quebec professionals in the performing arts Français
MONTREAL, March 1, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - The Board of Directors of the Montreal 2017 ISPA Congress has taken advantage of its annual general meeting to announce the creation of three new fellowships for emerging to mid-career performing arts professionals in Quebec.
At the 100th ISPA (International Society for the Performing Arts) Congress held in Montreal from May 23 to 27, 2017, Place des Arts welcomed 425 performing arts professionals from 31 countries. The event was a resounding success and Montreal 2017 ISPA Congress Board Chair Marc Blondeau, President and CEO of Place des Arts, announced that accumulated surpluses would be used to encourage succession and promote links between Quebec and the international arts community.
Mr. Blondeau took the occasion to highlight the dedication, exceptional commitment and efforts made by the Board of Directors of the Montreal 2017 ISPA Congress: Mr. Alain Paré, President, General Manager and Founder of CINARS, Executive Producer of the Congress, Marie-Christine Dufour, Executive Director of Lemieux Pilon 4D Art, Marie-Catherine LaPointe, founder of the Boulev'Art artists agency, Mr. David Lavoie co-director and administrative director of the TransAmériques Festival (FTA), Mr. Stéphane Lavoie, director general and programming at TOHU, the Cité des arts du cirque, and Madame Clothilde Cardinal, director of programming at Place des Arts. On behalf of the Board of Directors, Mr. Blondeau also expressed his gratitude to the Quebec Delegation in New York and especially to Mr. Jean-Pierre Dion, Cultural Attaché.
The three fellowships created, collectively known as the Quebec Fellowship Program, will enable the beneficiaries to join the few hundred professional ISPA members for three years and will cover their membership fees, registration for the ISPA Congresses in New York in 2019, 2020 and 2021, a travel allowance and participation in ISPA educational and mentoring programs.
"By joining ISPA's extensive network, Fellows will have the opportunity to participate in development activities and to interact with professionals from some of the world's leading arts and cultural organizations," said Mr. Blondeau.
Mr. David Baile, CEO of the International Society for the Performing Arts, warmly thanked the Montreal 2017 ISPA Congress Board for this move to support an ISPA Fellowship Program in Quebec, joining 10 currently participating countries and regions around the world.

The ISPA's 100th Congress in Montreal – A Brilliant Success!
In its report at the Annual General Meeting, the Montreal 2017 ISPA Congress Board of Directors presented a very positive assessment of the event. The opening speech by playwright Michel Marc Bouchard, as well as the six discussion panels were a great success among participants. The Anthony Field Academy's one-and-a-half day intensive program, the Pitch New Works series, and the networking periods between arts companies and broadcasters were also highly appreciated, as were the performances presented throughout the event. Finally, the congress took the opportunity to present awards celebrating the journeys of six professionals. André Ménard and Alain Simard received the International Citation of Merit, Jacqueline Desmarais was awarded the Angel Award and Margie Gillis, Kent Nagano and Robert Lepage received the Distinguished Artist Award.
The direct economic impact of the 100th ISPA Congress in Montreal for the culture and tourism industry was valued at more than $3 million, not counting the indirect economic benefits for artists, companies or performing arts professionals, broadening their contact networks and offering international contracts.
The Montreal ISPA 2017 Board of Directors members welcomed the contribution of all members of the various committees and all speakers and moderators at the congress. They also warmly thanked the partners: the Government of Quebec – the Ministry of Culture and Communications, the Ministry of International Relations and La Francophonie, the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec, the Secretariat for the Metropolitan Region; the Government of Canada – Canadian Heritage and the Canada Council for the Arts; the City of Montreal – the Office of Festivals and Cultural Events and the Montreal Arts Council; Tourisme Montréal, the Festival TransAmériques, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montreal, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the City of Circus Arts (TOHU and the National Circus School) and all private sponsors.
