QUEBEC, March 7, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The Oil and Gas Services Association of Québec (OGSAQ) welcomes the National Energy Board's decision to approve the Line 9B reversal.
According to Mario Lévesque, president of the OGSAQ, Quebec can only win by diversifying its sources of energy supply. "Nearly 50% of energy consumption in Quebec is based on hydrocarbons. Hydropower represents barely more than 40% of the energy that is consumed in the province. Therefore, not only is it imperative that Quebec diversify its energy sources, but it must also turn to reliable supply sources. As things currently stand, oil imported into Quebec comes mostly from the Middle East and North Africa. But now, thanks to the reversal of Line 9B, Quebec will be in a position to import its oil from Western Canada."
In addition to providing the province with an additional, reliable energy source, this direct access to Western Canadian oil will also result in the preservation of our cutting-edge expertise in the sector and thousands of refining and petrochemical industry jobs. «The oil and gas industry has solid growth potential in Quebec. Its development will provide even more quality jobs to locals, and, as a result, extraordinary benefits for the province".
