GATINEAU, QC, Jan. 31, 2012 /CNW/ - The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) today released its investigation report (A10O0145) into the July 2010 collision with tower of a Bell 206B helicopter, operated by Essential Helicopters, near Elk Lake, Ontario.
The report is available on the TSB website at www.bst-tsb.gc.ca.
The helicopter was on a visual flight rules flight from North Bay to Kapuskasing, Ontario, with 2 persons on board. About 1 hour and 12 minutes into the flight, the helicopter collided with a tower, approximately 70 feet in height, in the vicinity of Elk Lake. The helicopter then struck the ground and was destroyed. Both occupants were fatally injured; there was no post-impact fire. The emergency locator transmitter functioned, but its range was reduced as its antenna was sheared on impact.
The TSB is an independent agency that investigates marine, pipeline, railway and aviation transportation occurrences. Its sole aim is the advancement of transportation safety. It is not the function of the Board to assign fault or determine civil or criminal liability.
