The Transportation Safety Board of Canada Releases Investigation Report into the May 2011 Collision of two Canadian National Trains in Sarnia, ON

GATINEAU, QC, Feb. 15, 2012 /CNW/ - The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) releases today its final investigation report (R11T0113) into the collision of two Canadian National (CN) trains in Sarnia, ON.

On May 22, 2011, yard train 0600 was pulling westward out of the track with a cut of 72 cars when the lead locomotive collided with the 28th car of yard train 0800, which was also pulling westward through a converging lead track. As a result of the collision, 2 loaded bi-level auto carriers and the locomotive from yard train 0600, as well as 6 dangerous goods tank cars from yard train 0800, derailed. There were no injuries and no loss of product.

The TSB is an independent agency that investigates marine, pipeline, railway and aviation transportation occurrences. Its sole aim is the advancement of transportation safety. It is not the function of the Board to assign fault or determine civil or criminal liability.
