SAINT-LAURENT, QC, Sept. 5, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - At the Council meeting held on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, Saint-Laurent Mayor Alan DeSousa, on behalf of the Governor General of Canada, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, presented the Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers 2018 to Mary Boeko, Diane de Grosbois and Hélène Tassé, all three of them residents of Saint-Laurent.
Mayor DeSousa warmly congratulated the three winners, saying, "We are very proud of you. You are an example of Saint-Laurent volunteers' commitment to community development. The tribute paid to you will undoubtedly reflect on the entire Saint-Laurent community."
The Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers is intended to recognize the outstanding achievements of Canadians across the country. It is awarded to Canadians who, during their lifetime, have made a significant, sustained and unremunerated contribution to their community, in Canada or abroad. It is part of the Canadian Honours System.
Mary Boeko has dedicated over 50 years to improving the lives of seniors in the Jewish community of Saint-Laurent. She has organized social programs, outings and cultural activities to help seniors remain socially involved and active.
Over the past 13 years, Diane de Grosbois has generously assisted over 1500 people with their tax returns through the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program.
Since 2004, Hélène Tassé has also taken part in the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program. In addition, she volunteers with organizations such as CARI St-Laurent and the Oasis de Saint-Laurent.
