Resurgence of mining sector on Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange
TORONTO, March 6, 2017 /CNW/ - TMX Group, the global exchange leader in mining, is a patron sponsor of the 2017 Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada's (PDAC) International Convention, Trade Show & Investors Exchange, and is pleased to welcome the global mining community to Toronto.
"PDAC is a marquee event for the global mining industry and Canadian mining ecosystem - which our Exchanges are at the centre of - making this a conference we are especially proud to sponsor," said Nick Thadaney, President & CEO, Global Equity Capital Markets, TMX Group. "With more than half of the world's public mining companies listed on our Exchanges, we are committed to supporting the growth of global mining companies of all sizes. We look forward to meeting and working with mining delegates from around the world at this year's conference."
As the global mining industry continues to show signs of recovery, Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) and TSX Venture Exchange (TSXV) remain focused on highlighting the breadth of mining companies listed on the Exchanges. During the first two months of 2017, TSX and TSXV welcomed six new mining issuers, including two IPOs – Adventus Zinc Corporation (TSXV:ADZN) and Superior Gold Inc. (TSXV:SGI).
TSX and TSXV are the world's number one listing venue for mining companies. The Exchanges were home to a total of 1,207 mining issuers that have a combined market capitalization of $313 billion as at January 31, 2017. Mining companies raised approximately $9.4 billion on TSX and TSXV combined in 2016 compared to approximately $6.8 billion in 2015, which is an increase of 38%. There were 1,540 mining financings last year on the Exchanges, which represents 57% of public company financings completed globally.
This week, TMX Group will host a number of mining delegations from around world, including those from Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and countries throughout Africa. The Exchanges will also participate in panel sessions and workshops, as well as host ceremonies to open and close trading on Canada's premier equity markets.
