All Remaining Pan Am tickets back on sale
TORONTO, May 8, 2015 /CNW/ - Today, the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games Organizing Committee (TO2015) released its full schedule for both men's and women's indoor volleyball, meaning fans can now get their hands on tickets for their favourite matchups featuring some of the world's leading volleyball nations.
Today marks another important milestone: tickets for all remaining Pan Am sport events are now back on sale at 1 p.m., including fan favourites such as rugby sevens and artistic gymnastics. Visit TORONTO2015.org/tickets for a detailed guide and full schedule of events.
"The excitement for the TORONTO 2015 Games is building now that all tickets are on sale and schedules for many of the competitions have been released, including today's volleyball schedule," said Saäd Rafi, chief executive officer, TO2015. "With the Games quickly approaching, Canadians are excited to be a part of this summer's TORONTO 2015 experience."
One of this summer's hottest tickets will be the indoor volleyball competition. Volleyball is one of the most popular sports in the world and some of the best teams in the sport come out from the Americas. The TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games will feature seven of the top 15 countries in the world.
The men's competition will be intense with Brazil, the top-ranked team in the world and defending Pan Am champion, leading the way. The United States, ranked fifth in the world, will be out to challenge Brazil, as will Argentina, currently ranked sixth, and Cuba, silver medallists at the Guadalajara 2011 Pan Am Games.
Canada, currently ranked 14th, had its best season ever on the world stage last year, finishing seventh at the World Championship.
"We've played the teams we will face in the preliminary round many times before, so there are definitely rivalries and respect among the teams," said Glenn Hoag, head coach and former player for the Canadian men's national team. "I'm sure fans will be excited to watch Canada play the U.S., but all the matches will demonstrate a high level of play."
The Canadian men have a busy season leading up to the Games. There is the World League competition taking place in Calgary and a World Cup qualifier in Detroit, both in May. In June, the team will travel to the Maritimes, Bulgaria, Cuba and Argentina.
Other teams competing in this summer's men's volleyball tournament include Mexico, Puerto Rico and Colombia.
The powerhouse women's team from the United States is the number-one ranked country in the world in indoor volleyball and will face top countries Brazil and Dominican Republic this summer. Brazil is the second-ranked country in the world and defending Pan Am champions, while Dominican Republic is sixth in the world. Other competing countries include Canada, Argentina, Cuba, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Peru.
The Canadian women's team currently sits 16th in the world and is hoping for big results in July.
"Our team is very excited now that we've seen the schedule. The Pan Am Games are an amazing opportunity for our athletes to showcase volleyball in a multi-sport environment on home soil," said Arnd Ludwig, head coach of the Canadian women's national team. "I'm very much looking forward to playing some competitive teams in Toronto this July."
The Canadian women will be playing Puerto Rico in Calgary this month, at the Pan American Cup in Peru and then the FIVB Grand Prix, in preparation for the Games.
Glenn Hoag, head coach of the Canadian men's indoor volleyball team, and Arnd Ludwig will be available to media during a teleconference call at 1:45 p.m. (ET) Friday, May 8. The call-in details are: +1.647.723.3981 (local) and toll-free: 800.747.5150. Please use access code 9572012.
