Further investigation by the OPP CVI members led to a massive seizure of unprocessed leaf tobacco.
Members of the Cornwall Regional Task Force (CRTF) were then notified to attend and have taken over the investigation.
A 57 year old male from St-Calixte, Quebec was arrested in connection to this investigation. He cannot be identified as the charges have not yet been deposed in court. He was released from custody pending his court appearance.
"This illicit product was seized prior to being processed into contraband cigarettes for sale amongst the Canadian public. The profits from the sale of illicit cigarettes are often used to finance other criminal activities" stated Insp. Tim Kimpan, Officer in Charge of the Cornwall Regional Task Force. "I commend the members of the SD&G OPP Commercial Vehicle Inspection Unit for their efforts and their assistance in this investigation. In partnership with our law enforcement partners, we are committed to a safer Canada".
