CORNWALL, ON, Jan. 5, 2012 /CNW/ - In an example mutual respect between workers and employers, the United Steelworkers and Air Liquide in Cornwall, Ontario ratified a first collective agreement on December 20th.
The three-and-a-half year agreement includes many elements of a respectful first contract: reasonable holiday and vacation provisions, paid union training, retroactive seniority and other aspects.
The collective agreement includes wage increases exceeding 20% over the life of the contract for all categories of employees.
"We are very happy with this outcome. Negotiating and ratifying this first collective agreement was a very respectful process. It will lead to a hard-working, stable workforce that will be good for our members, Air Liquide and the community of Cornwall," said Richard Leblanc, Staff Representative for the United Steelworkers.
"I am very proud of our members who were part of this inaugural bargaining committee. They proved to be hard-working, dedicated and thoughtful union negotiators."
"We also want to congratulate Air Liquide for conducting themselves with professionalism throughout the process," added Leblanc.
