Canadian family reunites for the holidays as part of #WishesDelivered campaign
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Dec. 23, 2015 /CNW/ - The holiday season is all about bringing people together. Today, UPS Canada launched its first-ever Canadian Wishes Delivered video, helping a mother and her son reunite for the holidays. The Wishes Delivered campaign, created to spread goodwill, invites the public to submit holiday wishes to UPS using the hashtag #WishesDelivered, and for every tagged wish, donates $1 - up to $150,000 USD - to one of five charity partners.
Last week, in the middle of peak season volume - forecasted to reach more than 630 million package deliveries globally - UPS Canada helped Shane King travel cross-country from Victoria, B.C. to Quebec City to surprise his mother, Lori, for the holidays. Separated from her son for almost two-years, Lori was relocated to Quebec City with her spouse, who is currently serving in the Canadian Armed Forces. The surprise was made extra-special by the fact that Shane and Lori share birthdays one day apart on December 22nd and 23rd. "When Lori told us her story we wanted to do something special to make her holiday memorable," says Steven Vitale, director of communications and public relations, UPS Canada. "The Wishes Delivered campaign is about making the holiday season brighter for everyone and we thought 'shipping' Shane to Quebec and sharing their story would inspire us all to spread goodwill."
With Christmas just two days away, UPS will continue to donate $1 for each wish submitted through until December 31, 2015. People can submit wishes online at www.ups.com/wishes, or by using the #WishesDelivered hashtag on Facebook and Twitter.
UPS announced earlier it expects to make a record number of deliveries to residential addresses during the holiday period this year—up to 60 per cent of all package deliveries, versus an average of 45 per cent on a full-year basis.
