More than 1,000 new toys to hit store shelves in advance of the 2012 holiday season
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Sept. 21, 2012 /CNW/ - With less than 100 days until Christmas, moms and kids have already begun to think about the holidays. Many moms have begun mapping out their holiday season plan and kids are starting to put together their Christmas wish lists. To help ease some of the holiday stress, Walmart Canada today announced the launch of its Massive Toy Event. A first-of-its-kind in Canada, this event includes more than 2,500 toys and officially introduces more than 1,000 new toys to the shelves of Walmart stores across the country.
"Our research shows that some moms are already shopping for their kids' Christmas gifts," said Cheri Anthony, director of merchandising for toys at Walmart Canada. "Our Massive Toy Event allows us to bring all of the season's hottest toys and licenses to customers when they're ready to shop, whether this means in September or in December."
The selection includes toys for kids of all ages and represents the latest toy trends, including educational, interactive, crafting, construction, outdoor, electronic, budget-friendly and movie and TV-related toys.
In select stores, mom and kids will be able to test Twister Dance, a new dance game that combines today's best dance music with the iconic Twister spots, providing a new way to learn hot new dances, and Roxx, a new collectible game that has many ways to play and even more ways to collect.
In conjunction with the Massive Toy Event, Walmart is also releasing two new free downloadable Augmented Reality mobile apps, available for Android and iPhone/iPad:
The apps allow the user to get an augmented reality experience by interacting with special in-store signage located throughout Walmart stores, online and in the weekly flyer, and have a game component in each. Both apps give the user a different unique experience and help to increase the fun during a shopping trip.
