VAUGHAN, ON, July 1, 2015 /CNW/ - The vast majority of all Canadians (77%)* think it's important to celebrate Canada Day, while just over half (54%) admit they don't do anything at all. In response to these strong stats, Weber-Stephen Canada Co. decided to do something special and extraordinary to celebrate Canada's 148th birthday, ensuring it was a party to remember.
The company recently hosted a patriotic, fun-filled get-together in Ontario's cottage country where the stage…or should we say the lake, was set with four large floating docks fully equipped with 10 fired-up Weber grills and an eager serving staff preparing food for the day's festivities. Curious about all the action, about 100 local cottagers jumped in their boats and headed over to a very unique block party where they were invited to "dock and dine" in the middle of gorgeous Glamour Lake in Haliburton, Ontario.
"Connecting and engaging with consumers is a key focus for Weber as we continue to expand our presence in Canada," said Patricia Larez, Vice President of Marketing, Weber Canada. "At Weber we believe that people are not just creating burgers, they are creating backyard memories. We are humbled by the love consumers feel for our brand and couldn't think of a better idea to celebrate Canada and Canadians than by allowing us do the grilling for them, in a fun and unforgettable way," she added.
Guests enjoyed a grillicious menu prepared by Weber Grill Specialist Chef Michael P. Clive along with his culinary team of sous chefs, AKA Weber's backyard heroes. The virtual kitchen included an assortment of Weber gas, charcoal, smokers and portable grills and featured a specially made, one and only Canadian-branded Weber Charcoal Kettle grill to highlight the occasion. Hot-off-the-grill items served to the anchored boaters included Sliders; Smoked Chicken Wings; Mini Veggie Kabobs and Grilled Corn on the Cob. Topping off the meal were commemorative Canada Day Red Velvet cupcakes (yes, you can bake on a barbecue!). Local cottager Anthony summed up the day nicely by saying, "It was an absolutely awesome day complete with great weather, great food and great friends."
The evening literally ended with a bang as guests were mesmerized by a spectacular fireworks display igniting the summer sky for all to enjoy.
To add more excitement to the celebrations, Weber Canada is kicking off a Social Media contest for a chance to win a Special Edition Red Weber Q2200 gas grill with iconic Canadian Maple Leaves on the grill handle. To enter, consumers are invited to share how they would #CelebrateCanada.
