WINDSOR, ON, Nov. 30, 2012 /CNW/ - The Windsor Detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) with the assistance of Windsor Police Service's Financial Crime and Arson Unit and Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) have arrested three local subjects after an investigation into an alleged large scale theft from an elderly woman.
A six-month joint operation, led police to believe that three subjects, by power of attorney and other means, had been stealing large sums of money from the victim over a period of several years. The three subjects are currently in custody while the investigation continues. Further arrests and charges are anticipated.
The following persons have been charged with offences under the Criminal Code:
- Ali Moustafa MEREI (47yrs) of Windsor, Ontario has been charged with Theft over $5,000.00, two counts of Possession of property obtained by crime, three counts of Laundering the proceeds of crime, Obstruction of justice, Perjury and Making false statement in affidavits.
- Frank SILLER (49yrs) of Windsor, Ontario has been charged with Theft over $5,000.00, two counts of Possession of property obtained by crime, three counts of Laundering the proceeds of crime, Obstruction of justice, Perjury and Making false statement in affidavits.
- Zeinab MERHI (25yrs) has been charged with Possession of property obtained by crime and Laundering the proceeds of crime.
"This is an excellent example of continuing work with our policing partners to address the crimes against elderly in our community", stated RCMP Inspector Serge COTÉ (Officer in Charge of the Windsor Detachment). He added "These are very complex investigations which require ongoing and concerted efforts of several law enforcement services and speak of our collective commitment to protect the elderly"
