WINDSOR, ON, Oct. 31, 2012 /CNW/ - Members of the Windsor Detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have arrested and charged a Windsor man after an investigation into the sale and distribution of contraband tobacco products. In addition, RCMP officers seized 1080 cartons of cigarettes, two minivans and approximately $1500.00 in cash.
Hasan Ali Muhammad, 31 years old, has been charged under the Excise Act, 2001. He is scheduled to appear in Windsor Provincial Court on December 12th, 2012.
"The contraband tobacco trade supports the growth of an underground economy that generates profits for organized crime", stated Inspector Serge Coté, Officer in Charge of Windsor RCMP Detachment. "People need to be aware that when they purchase contraband tobacco, they are funding a criminal activity".
