Wounded Warriors Canada Makes Substantial Donation Supporting Equine Assisted Therapy for PTSD Français
CALGARY, Feb. 10, 2014 /CNW/ - Today, at the internationally recognized Calgary Stampede Grounds, Wounded Warriors Canada was proud to announce a $150,000 donation to the Can Praxis Equine Assisted Therapy Program for PTSD.
Wounded Warriors Canada has become the national leader in funding animal assisted support programs for Canadian Armed Forces members (serving and retired) suffering from the devastating impacts of PTSD.
Phil Ralph, National Program Director for Wounded Warriors Canada, commented, "Can Praxis is an internationally recognized therapy program for PTSD headquartered here in Alberta. In just 8 months, Can Praxis has put 69 participants through its innovative program and Wounded Warriors Canada is extremely proud to be their national funding partner."
"We are committed to funding these state of the art therapy programs, ensuring that no matter where a serving or retired CAF member resides, if they qualify, these programs will be made available at no cost," said Ralph.
Steve Critchley, Co-Founder of Can Praxis, commented, "Can Praxis, an Alberta based program, is pleased and honoured to be partnering with such a tremendous organization as Wounded Warriors Canada."
"PTSD and OSI are not regional concerns for our Veterans - no matter their age or when and where they served. They are pressing national issues that require our full attention and immediate commitment. By working together we can work and accomplish even more for our Veterans and their families. Wounded Warriors Canada makes this possible today through their substantial funding provided directly to Can Praxis," said Critchley.
About Wounded Warriors Canada:
Founded in 2006, Wounded Warriors Canada is a non-profit organization that helps Canadian Armed Forces members - be they regular force, reservists or retired - who have been wounded or injured in their service to Canada.
Through a wide range of programs and services, they help find solutions where gaps have left our soldiers in need. Currently, their primary focus is on mental health and, particularly, the staggering impact of PTSD, perpetrated by Operational Stress Injuries. Overall, however, their mandate is to help any Veteran in need as they transition to civilian life.
About Can Praxis:
While the Canadian Armed Forces uses teambuilding, communications training and leadership development to prepare soldiers for war, through the use of horses as a training aid, Can Praxis uses these same tools to help soldiers and their families recover.
The program is offered to Veterans diagnosed with PTSD and/or OSI and their Spouse/Partner/Family member at no cost.
