Xebec's first Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) biogas upgrading plant receives visit of Datuk Dr. Ewon Ebin, Malaysia's Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation Français
BLAINVILLE, QC, April 10, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Xebec Adsorption Inc. (TSXV: XBC) ("Xebec"), a provider of biogas upgrading, natural gas, field gas and hydrogen purification and filtration solutions for the clean energy and crude-derived fuels displacement markets, announced today that Datuk Dr. Ewon Ebin, Malaysia's Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation has recently paid a working visit to Xebec's biogas upgrading plant located on Cary Island in Selangor. The plant was commissioned in June last year, and utilizes Xebec's advanced biogas upgrading technology, which transforms and upgrades the biogas from palm oil mill effluents (POME) into compressed natural gas for transportation use. The plant has a design capacity of 500 liters of gasoline equivalent a day.
The project was developed by Sirim's Renewable Energy Research Center. The palm oil industry is one of the important industries in Malaysia, and the fourth largest contributor to the Malaysian economy. The other benefits from bio natural gas captured from POME are a reduction of the dependence on fossil fuels, enhancement of fuel diversity, an increase in energy supply security and a reduction of carbon dioxide emission from the palm oil industry. The Selangor POME biogas upgrading project is the first of its kind in the world.
"Production of biogas from POME will truly benefit the Malaysian economy, as fuel prices are set to increase in future years due to global factors. I am sure that Xebec will be able to assist Malaysia's efforts of producing alternative fuels for natural gas vehicles with Xebec's proven and reliable biogas technology." said Kurt Sorschak, President and CEO of Xebec.
Given the size of the palm oil industry in South East Asia, Xebec is excited about the opportunities to upgrade biogas from POME to renewable natural gas. Xebec is especially thankful to its Malaysian partner to have selected Xebec as the technology provider of choice.
