Xerox Canada and Datawatch partner to unlock value of data for retail chains, other large enterprise Français
Large Canadian retailer will be first to implement solution aimed at removing 50 million pages annually from daily store-level inventory reporting
TORONTO, Dec. 3, 2013 /CNW/ - Each day, large retail chains generate stacks of paper inventory reports that for the most part are bundled and physically filed for future reference. Xerox Canada announced today that it has partnered with Datawatch Corporation to digitize and add analytics to the reporting process, reducing the burden of paper and making it easier for retailers and other large enterprises to extract valuable information from the data they collect.
The reporting solution soon will be implemented at a large Canadian retailer to help convert its paper-based inventory reporting to a digital environment across its national network of stores. The new solution will determine which inventory reports need to be printed daily and which can be stored electronically. The chain expects to reduce its stores' printed reports by 25 percent or approximately 50 million pages annually.
"Large retailers collect what amounts to piles and piles of 'big data,' but because this information often is paper-based and arrives from different sources in varied formats, it's challenging to extract meaningful information," said Jim Muzyka, senior vice president, Xerox Services (Canada). "Our expertise in simplifying complex processes, combined with Datawatch's ability to access and analyze unstructured data, will allow retailers and other large enterprises tap into information that is useful to store managers and others charged with improving how work gets done."
Xerox's project management, process assessment and optimization services help large enterprise capture, digitize, store and manage business documents to improve workflow. Datawatch's systems integration services and Visual Data Discovery software extracts structured and unstructured data from transactional systems, and organizes it in an intelligent digital format for reporting and analysis.
"Information locked away in reports and other non-traditional sources often holds the key to improving processes and better understanding businesses," said Michael Morrison, president and chief executive officer, Datawatch. "Our unique ability to extract critical business information from any data source and deliver it through a visual data discovery environment is a perfect fit with Xerox's expertise in process improvement and their capabilities in bridging paper-based processes to digital environments. Together, we are opening up a world of possibilities for customers wishing to unlock the value in their data."
