MONTREAL, Jan. 14, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The Barreau du Québec is launching its brand new institutional advertising campaign today. This campaign, with 24,000 Lawyers Working for a Just Québec as the theme, will be advertised through various media between now and March 17. The first part of the Barreau du Québec's province-wide campaign is a 30-second TV commercial highlighting three recent stands that it has taken — on abortion rights, on maintaining the Long-gun Registry and on the right for terminal care patients to die in dignity.
"The 24,000 Lawyers Working for a Just Québec campaign emphasizes the social role played by our professional corporation, by regularly defending the rights and freedoms of our fellow citizens," stated Me Nicolas Plourde, President of the Barreau du Québec. "The Barreau's objective in this advertising campaign is to acquaint the public, through concrete situations, with this special, unique role that we have been playing for a long time and which consists of supporting active, open-ended justice in the public interest," added Me Plourde.
A first
Me Claude Provencher, executive director of the Barreau du Québec, mentioned as a reminder that "in fact, it must be pointed out that this is the first time that one of the Barreau du Québec's advertising campaigns has focused solely on defending Quebecers' rights and freedoms, and yet the Barreau takes a stand an average of 60 times a year on draft legislation, public debates relating to the administration of justice or legal issues. This unique role played by the Barreau, which involves defending the rule of law in our society, stems from the very expertise that characterizes the practice of the legal profession and also from the importance that the Barreau attaches to educating the public, as people who are well-informed about their rights or the changes in the law within the society where they live are then better equipped to assert their rights and take part in the democratic life of the society to which they belong."
A multi-faceted campaign
This advertising campaign is being conducted by Agence Cartier of Montréal (www.agencecartier.com). The Barreau du Québec's campaign includes a TV commercial that will be aired on over 12 television channels. Other components of this campaign will be found on the websites of certain daily newspapers as well as in the print media and on social networks. And throughout the campaign, the yourjustice.ca and votrejustice.ca microsites will provide additional information. All social networking and advertising tools will therefore direct the public to yourjustice.ca and votrejustice.ca. The hashtag for the campaign is #VotreJustice.
More to come…
The Barreau du Québec will continue its strong presence on the public scene in 2013 with the advertising campaign that it is launching today, the upcoming public stands that it will be taking and the launch of new services for both the general public and its own members as well as the publication of the second edition of its update on the current legal situation, to be issued very soon, under the title Bilan de l'état de droit.
